The League of Legends Championship Series recently announced its partnership with Mastercard, making them the exclusive financial services partner. The deal expands upon Mastercard's existing relationship with League of Legends esports.
This weekend Mastercard will act as the presenting sponsor of the LCS Summer Finals opening ceremony in Detroit. Select cardholders will also be offered a variety of different experiences like backstage tours, meet-and-greets with Jax Anderson and VIP viewing alongside League of Legends pro players.
The deal will have Mastercard sponsoring the LCS Player of the Week Award (POTW) in which one LCS pro player will be selected weekly for recognition by a committee of commentators and analysts based on their all-round performance. Fans will equally be able to vote on who they think will be that week's POTW to receive a prize if they guess right.
That's not all either. Mastercard also debuted a new series called “Together Start Something Priceless” that showcases unique stories of League of Legends players from around the world and the ways they contribute to and support their communities. The first film focuses on former Evil Geniuses pro Stephen “Snoopeh” Ellis and how he has created a startup venture that aims to help other players transform their love of esports into a career. Five films will be released on the new @MastercardNexus Twitter channel over the next six months and will also be available in full on Mastercard’s YouTube channel.
According to Riot's post, there's still more in store for the future from this partnership, so fans have a lot to look forward to.
