Riot introduces the new Champion Mastery system for League of Legends where you’ll earn ranks and rewards for playing your favorite champions.

After you finish a game of League, the system will total up points based on your contribution, as well as your team’s performance. In the post-game screen, you’ll be able to see the Grade that you earned for your performance as that champion, as well as where you’re playing them. Once you earn enough points, your champ’s mastery level will increase and you’ll earn rewards. In addition, your profile will have a new stat tracker that’ll display your combined mastery rank total.

When the system rolls out, there will be five different ranks that you can reach. Once you hit Tier 4 and Tier 5, you’ll earn a loading screen badge, custom emote, and announcement banner. When you view your champions, the different tiers will also be displayed under their images. There may be only be 5 tiers right now, but as the system progresses, there will be higher levels and other rewards.

Starting today, the Champion Mastery system should be functional in the PBE; in a couple of weeks, if all goes well, the system will go live in one region. Currently, this feature will only work for Summoner’s Rift normal queues and only summoners who have reached level 5 will be eligible for Master points.
