Following a public dispute towards practice which lasted a week, Hangzhou Spark’s Cai “Krystal” Shilong has been indefinitely suspended by the Overwatch League.
Earlier in the week he had been fined for not informing his team's management about his whereabouts for ten days and a lack of preparation for scrims. Krystal would take long trips to China without keeping in touch with Spark's management. His reason for these trips revolved around his need to care for his mother and treatment for his mental health issues, but often it was really just to see his girlfriend.
Krystal also missed the entire pre-season and the start of stage one because he traveled to America on the wrong visa and had to return to reapply, only to remain in China until February 21.
He's also been accused of distracting the other players through his disregard for scrims and VOD review sessions, causing the team to lose its synergy during stage two and three. It led to a sharp decline in their performance in both stages.
After these issues became more serious, Spark tried trading Krystal to the Boston Uprising, the Guangzhou Charge, and the Washington Justice, but all three rejected the offers.
His actions may have other far-reaching implications besides the suspension since they breach his contract. It remains to be seen how Krystal’s future in OWL will turn out.
