Konami is building an esports center in Tokyo ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Konami will build a twelve-story building dedicated exclusively to esports. The facility will be located in Tokyo’s Ginza district, one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world.

If everything goes according to plan (how it can't — we're speaking of Japanese, aren't we?), the construction of the Konami Creative Center, and that is the name for this building, will be completed in this year's November. So, there will be an esports arena located on its territory, a special store that will sell all the equipment necessary for the gaming, and professionals will hold special courses aimed to increase esports awareness in Japan.

It's worth mentioning the fact that Tokyo is the city to have the Olympics in 2020, and a large number of tourists will arrive in the island state, including the countries where esports is popular. So the desire of local companies to get involved in the movement is understandable. Still, the gaming traditions in the country are strong enough, as well as the Japanese have a great competitive spirit.

The land of the rising sun appeared on the esports map quite recently. For a long time, the esports activities were limited by local laws regulating gaming, and only in the latest days, this barrier was broken. Now, Japan is making a hasty leap to catch up with the rest of the world: in 2019, Japan's esports union will hold Japan vs Asia's finest esports Challenge Cup
