With the last Killer Instinct World Cup held in 2017, its understandable that fans and pro players alike have felt left out of the fun at a time when the competitive fighting game scene has been very active and expanding rapidly.

It seems fans of the combo-focused fighter have some good news on the way as the next tournaments circuit has been teased by Ultra Arcade's Brandon Alexander. The Killer Instinct World Cup founder stated on Twitter, “Happy to say that after talking with Dave, we are making moves to get you all an announcement within the next 2-3 weeks. All I can say right now is that we’re back!” If there was ever any doubt regarding whether the upcoming announcement will be about the Killer Instinct tournament series, Alexander’s tweet also included the hashtag KIWC. Nuff said right?

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to prevent the hosting of live events, the Killer Instinct World Cup will most likely be held online. However, unlike many of the more popular fighting games out there, its online experience is considered among the best thanks to its rollback netcode.
