Chinese holding Tencent and local gadget manufacturer OPPO made a dream come true for all the esports fans in the region. These financial giants decided to collaborate and host an event with a total prize pool of $142,000 — besides, winners will get OPPO smartphones.
The OPPO PUBG Mobile India Series 2019 is an open tournament, so everyone interested can participate. This event is likely to become an image festival to organizers: all the tournament MVPs will get additional prizes and bonuses from the event's patrons, investors will count the viewer audience (that's a billion people region, to be said), and India itself will get respect and honor at the worlds esport scene.
Folks from Tencent know their stuff — in 2018 they've held an international PUBG Mobile Star Challenge tournament with a $600,000 prize pool and a local Campus Championship. Aneesh Aravind, regional manager of the Tencent Games had some words on the upcoming event:
The growth of PUBG MOBILE from a loved gaming app to India’s game of choice is immense validation of our efforts to provide a quality gaming experience to our users bringing both the competitive and entertainment spirit for gamers. We are committed to building a sustainable esports ecosystem for gamers in India. The PUBG MOBILE Campus Championship last October was a great start, and with the support of OPPO, we look forward to making the PUBG MOBILE India Series 2019 the next big event for esports in India.
PUBG Mobile is the most popular discipline in India, reporting figures are much higher than analogical in more developed esports regions. But traditional industry representatives are a complete failure. Perhaps the recently held DreamHack Mumbai will change the situation with Dota 2 and CS:GO and attract audience. We'll see.
