In the new patch, Valve addressed the biggest problems of Artifact ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

A couple of hours ago Valve dropped a major Artifact update, addressing some but not all of the biggest problems in the game. Here is a TL:DR of the patch notes:

  • Call to arms featured event received additional decks and leaderboards (global and with friends)
  • New automated tournament mode allows engaging in quick pre-made free-for-all competitions with up to 64 players. Players can use only common cards and modify their decks between games.

  • New card chat wheel allows players to communicate during the match. The wheel includes custom massages.
  • Bot gauntlets added with increasingly higher difficulty. Easy bots are now easier.
  • Colorblind support.
  • Lots of bug fixes.

Artifact doesn’t feel so lonely anymore

If you are not colour blinded, the chat wheel experience is the best addition to the game in this patch. To be honest, Valve far exceeded my expectations, since it added much more ways to talk to the other player than it could have. In one of the previous articles, I speculated that there would never be a true chat in Artifact because it’s a truly global game, meaning you can get matched against a person from literally any place in the world.

I’m glad I have been wrong on that account and there is a way to communicate the feelings of frustration or friendliness towards the fellow player. Looking forward to using the chat over the weekend.

By the way, Valve, thank you for this:

Consider colour-blinded mode even if you don’t need it

I can only imagine how good Artifact has become for colour blinded people. At the same time, I’m urging you to try it even if you don’t need it. The game looks very neat with those deeper colours.

More updates coming soon

The patch notes page states that next week Valve is going to launch a new update with a skill-based progression system. Previous massages also indicate that the developers are going to issue other updates throughout January.

We are still waiting for Valve to address other problems, like huge balance disparity between heroes but this fix might be delayed until the next big expansion with additional cards.
