Introduction

Dark Souls III is an action role-playing game which was created in order to continue the story from Dark Souls II. Having said that, players are equipped with a variety of weapons to fight against enemies. In fact, they can vary from bows and swords to shields, which are used as a secondary weapon and mainly to deflect the incoming damage from enemies. Each weapon has two basic types of attacks which deal damage.

In addition to that, Dark Souls III also features a returning feature from Demon's Souls - Magic. In the game itself, when a player performs a spell, he has a specific "energy" called focus points which gets consumed.

There are different varieties of spells. Some of them are offensive, defensive or supportive and they are divided into three sections - Sorcery, Pyromancy and Miracles. Similar to many other games out there, you will only have a couple of spells when you start. However, as you progress through the game, you will gain access to many new spells and high stats, which will make your life a lot easier.

How to actually use the different spells & magic?

Casting spells is very cool but in order to do it the right way, you need to have an appropriate item which you can use. For example, if you want to use any of the available Miracles, you need to equip Talismans or Chimes, whereas, for Sorcery, you need to have a Staff or a Catalyst. In addition, if you like fire and Pyromancies is your thingy, prepare to equip Flames.

However, apart from having the needed items, you also need to do a little bit more in order to use the spells and magic. First, you need to go to a Bonfire and choose Attune Spell. Bonfires can be founds throughout the map so try to locate one beforehand. After that, put your Talisman/Chimes or Staff/Catalyst in your offhand and put the spell in the active slot which will appear when you do the steps above.

Once you're done, you can cast the spell using L1 or cast the Talisman/Chimes or Staff/Catalyst power with L2.

If you never used any magic of spells, now is the time to do so!
