After being left to die following resounding success, Hi-Rez studio's issued a patch to popular shooter Tribes Ascend 4 years after its debut, making players think the company had stopped their streak of abandoning its released games in favor of another soon after launch.

Then, with another wave of silence, the company pushed out another patch today while making sure to formerly announce its plans to cease development on the aging multiplayer shooter.

And its not surprise anymore, really. The company has since put out SMITE - a fairly popular MoBA title - before quickly moving into getting Paladins out of the door. They're juggling two more titles likely in need of constant care and attention through both content and balance patches, so it stands to reason why they'd attempt to get Tribes: Acscend into a solid state before leaving it to care for itself.

The playerbase has seemingly accepted the inevitable either way with a detailed Reddit conversationtalking about their dashed hopes for the game, fond memories and looking for suggestions as to what to play next.

Goodbye, Tribes! Hopefully it won't be another 8 years before we see another company take on your blend of ski-shooting action.
