With the 2019 season of the Overwatch League fast approaching, one of the new teams set to join the competition has just been unveiled. Meet the Guangzhou Charge!

Owned by Chinese conglomerate Nenking Group, the team will be the first esports organisation to represent the city of Guangzhou. Guangzhou Charge is to join the Pacific Division of the Overwatch League in the upcoming season, where they hope to build an international fanbase. The official press release went into a bit more detail in regards to the team’s identity:

“We chose Charge because it expresses our vision to lead the esports movement in China, and to be at the forefront of innovation. It also expresses our vision for a competitive team that plays aggressive and bold.”

Sonny Xiao, CEO, Guangzhou Charge

The organisation’s official colours comprise various shades of blue and teal, drawing inspiration from the landscape of the Guangdong-Hong-Kong Macau Greater Bay Area:

“We have a large home region that stretches from the coast to the mountains, and we drew inspiration from dark blue waters, light blue skies, and lush green hills for our team colors. We’re so excited to unveil these elements to our fans, and it’s now our job to build this team brand into something that everyone in our region can be proud of.”

Chris Hwang, Marketing and Creative Director, Guangzhou Charge

Guangzhou Charge is yet to reveal their roster.
