Misfits Gaming, the owner of Overwatch League franchise Florida Mayhem, has partnered with Gift of Life to help educate the public and signup volunteer bone marrow and stem cell donors. These donations will go a long way in curing leukemia, sickle cell, and many other diseases through transplants.
Florida Mayhem Team Day will be held at the Blizzard Arena today, which is where the partnership will have its first activation. Players, coaches, fans and other interested parties will show their support for Gift of Life's mission.
Through platforms like Twitch and Caffeine, online viewers will be persuaded to order a cheek swab kit. These samples will then be matched with patients in need, eventually leading to a donation. Florida Mayhem will also take part in swab drives that Gift of Life Campus Ambassadors will hold at colleges and universities across the State of Florida.
Florida Mayhem President John Kracum praised Gift of Life's efforts and takes pride in their partnership. “What I love most about this campaign is that not only does it let us and our community rally around a worthy cause, but it empowers our fans by letting them help others and save lives.”
Gift of Life has been in operation for nearly 3 decades, saving lives by securing transplant donors. 540 Campus Ambassadors have added 42,350 people to the Gift of Life registry since 2014. This led to 85 life-saving matches. This school year, 230 Campus Ambassadors will visit 103 Florida colleges and universities to save even more.
