Video games have always been known and appreciated for the fantastical things players see and do in them. However, many game developers also try to focus on more realistic gameplay mechanics, like the Tekken franchise. That is if we put aside things like juggles, ground bounce and the devil gene aside,
Fighting games are known for their characters flying all over the screen, performing physical and mystical feats that just aren’t possible, Tekken included. However, Bandai Namco’s game is one of the more grounded titles out there. Game Director Katsuhiro Harada and even fans of the game have often spoken about the authenticity of the martial arts found in Tekken. So much so that it’s not uncommon to come across videos of fans and enthusiasts trying to reproduce said moves.
Gamology is a YouTube gaming channel that took the liberty of having real-life martial artists reproduce some of the moves found in Tekken 7. In a recent video, seven-time karate world champion, actress and stunt woman, Gemma Nguyen, and her associate Noah Fleder perform a couple of moves straight from the game.
The pair focus their demonstration on four characters, Jinn, Lei, Law, and Kazuya. Each has three to four moves showcased, and while Lei’s moves are the least accurate, they also appear to be the ones they enjoy the most. Kazuya’s hellsweep was where Gemma drew the line for realism, though.
Check out the video below and rate their performance for yourself.
