GAMER Arena partners with Playstation for 2020 regional tournament

MyRepublic GAMER Arena has announced its partnership with PlayStation to run its first regional tournament series in 2020.

Open to players in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, Season 1 will run from January to March. Tournament qualifiers will be held online on PlayStation Network, featuring a prize pool of US$25,000. Winners from Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia will also be flown to Singapore for the Season Finals. 

GAMER Arena has successfully run 48 tournaments across 16 games with SG$55,000 in cash and prizes. Its goal is to create opportunities for aspiring esports professionals with an avenue to grow their skills and go pro. Other partners they've worked with include ASUS Republic of Gamers, Secretlab, Sony Electronics Singapore, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

MyRepublic Singapore managing director, Lawrence Chan said in a release regarding the deal:

"We saw firsthand how hungry aspiring pro players are for the opportunity to test their skills and meet others like them. That's why it is incredibly exciting to have the support of Sony PlayStation to take GAMER Arena to the region and to have the opportunity to support the esports aspirations of gamers beyond our shores."

MyRepublic is one of the fastest-growing telecom companies in the Asia-Pacific, with operations in Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia. GAMER Arena will be run and organized by long-time partners, Eliphant. They ran the GAMER Arena events for the inaugural year and have partnered with the telco on other projects and events like GameStart Asia.
