Friday Memes & Arts #23 ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!
This week the gaming community was bamboozled by an unexpected decision of Activision Blizzard to introduce loot boxes in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The community has been vocally unhappy about the monetization systems of Overwatch and HotS, and the Black Ops 4 situation shows that Activision hasn’t even started to listen.
In case you forgot, in CoD: WWII you could see other players opening a loot box.
Let’s not forget, that Blizzard isn’t the only company that will sneak loot boxes or other dirty monetization tools in a game. Here is a technic, used by everyone’s favorite game company EA:
Loot boxes are very popular among game developers because they give an opportunity to earn money long after the game has been released through relatively cheap cosmetic updates. This system targets people who tend to like gambling and rich gamers, or “whales,” who waste a lot of money without discretion.
