Fourth place also gains MMR in Teamfight Tactics ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Teamfight Tactics champion designer Riot Augustrecently mentioned in a stream that players don't need to come 1 - 3 place to gain MMR.

“the way the MMR in the game works is that if you get top four on average your MMR increases,”

This is a bit unexpected since the game currently only focuses on the top three players. When you factor in the unpredictability of RNG in general, it would be difficult for players to consistently take the first three spots.

That isn't to say the game does not have any strategic elements, but to win every match would mean getting near perfect plays every time. If you've ever played TFT, you'll know that isn't happening.

The inclusion of fourth place gives players more opportunity to gain MMR. By the time Ranked mode hits in patch 9.14, players should be able to clearly appreciate the benefits of coming in fourth.
