Lim Yo Hwan takes first place at APT Philippines Championships II 2018

Lim Yo Hwan, an icon of professional e-sports, who rose to prominence as a StarCraft player in the early days of video gaming in South Korea, has just claimed the mantle of champion at the 2018 APT Philippines Championships II poker tournament. BoxeR walked away with PHP 2,819,900 (~$51,950) after leading in every stage of the 3 day-long tournaments held at Resorts World Manila in the Philippines

Lim ‘BoxeR’ Yo Hwan largely contributed to the growth of e-sports in South Korea in the early noughties, giving rise to a new celebrity archetype - the progamer. As one of the founding members of SK Telecom T1’s StarCraft roster, BoxeR’s fanclub reached over 600,000 supporters, with OnGameNet releasing a DVD with highlights of the Terran Emperor’s televised matches. Lim Yo Hwan transitioned to playing poker full time in mid-2013.
