Fnatic and MIBR occupy the 6th and the 8th place on the work CS:GO rankings, making them likely candidates for the direct invite. There is a good chance that Astralis will also get directly invited to the event, as their squad also shares the same nationality and they are a high-tier team. At this moment, there are two vacant seeds to the World Finals.
WESG 2018 World Finals take place right after the Major at Katowice, kicking off on March 11. Teams will be fighting for a prize pool of $890,000.
WESG is a unique unicorn of the world esports tournament organizers, which focuses on players’ nationalities above all else. It brings out simultaneously the most lopsided and beautiful alliances of the scene. I use the term “lopsided” to highlight the fact that some teams could be much stronger because they are used to play together, while others form a temporary squad to play in WESG. Anyway, this format helps people from all over the world to rally among their national teams, making the competition even more attractive.
