Finding your companions in Fallout 4 is an easy thing to do.

Introduction

Fallout 4 is an amazing game where you can do a wide variety of activities.  One of them is having your own settlements, which are basically your communities. While this is pretty cool indeed, there is something which is definitely not as cool - losing your companion. This is a very common issue in Fallout 4, which is why we decided to draft this article and show you how to find lost or missing companions in Fallout 4.

So, how to find your beloved companion once it is no longer with you?

First, it is important to know when a companion actually goes missing. This can happen for many reasons but definitely one of the most common ones is just because you told them to go somewhere. Yes, this might seem like a pretty strange reason but as a leader of the settlement, you often have to give orders here and there and it is possible that you've just sent someone to go somewhere that you forgot.

Apart from that, another very common reason could be due to the fact that you just have new companions. After all, space there haS some sort of limits so you will eventually have to set off someone. Regardless of the reason, the end result is always the same - your companion will be gone. Let's take a look at how to bring them back.

Locating your companion

Luckily for us, there is a special tab in the workshop menu where you can keep track of what is going on. In order to access it, you have to do the following things:

  • Go into a settlement and click on the workshop menu, then Resources and then Miscellaneous.
  • From there, choose to build a bell. This building is very useful in those situations because when you ring it, all settlers will gather near it.
  • It is very important to build it somewhere in the center of the settlement so that people will have enough space to actually gather.
  • As you can guess, this is a pretty good method to bring back any of your missing companions. In addition to that, you can also try to re-organize what's happening inside the settlement so either way, you will have to build this bell eventually.

However, there is one special type of a companion which requires a little bit of a different approach. Yes, you've guessed it right, it is the one and only - Dogmeat! He is one of the cutest things in Fallout 4 but at the same time, a pretty big pain to deal with because he is constantly running away.

Many Fallout 4 players claimed before that Dogmeat always goes missing once they go out to the Wastelands. This is pretty strange because there is no real connection between the two events but nevertheless, it is happening. That's why if you notice this yourself, one of the best things to do is to just go back to the Red Rocker Diner. Literally nine out of ten times, you will find the amazing dog there just patiently waiting for you.

There is also something that you can do which will prevent the initial "running" from Dogmeat. If you build him a nice-looking dog house, he will respawn there every time even if he gets lost in the Wasteland. This is definitely advisable to do it because you will save yourself tons of headaches in the future.

Fallout 4 on PC

One of the advantages of playing a game on a PC is that you can type various different commands in the console. In this case, if you happen to play Fallout 4 on a PC, you will be able to instantly bring every companion in the game right next to you without having to go anywhere. Pretty cool, right?

In order to do this, you need to open the console and type the following: prid + the ID number of the companion you are looking for. You can find those IDs online. Once done, close the console with the same key that you've opened it and you will see the companion right next to your side.

Unfortunately, this only works on PC so for all the console players out there - I am sorry. On the other hand, many people actually criticize this method of finding your missing companions because it looks like cheating. Even though this is definitely not the case, we have to give them some credit because it does look like cheating when you look it from a different perspective.
