With EVO Japan 2020 taken care of, Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cellar held the annual Evolution Championship Series lineup stream to reveal what games we'll be seeing this year. EVO 2020 will have eight main titles and a special Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament.
Last year EVO had nine games represented and achieved a few new accolades. For the first time, Street Fighter did not headline the event, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate taking the top spot away from the tournament regular. Smash Ultimate also received the highest number of entries at over 3,000, while six other titles exceeded the 1,000 participant mark. Lastly, the event gained 200,000 concurrent viewers with a peak of 279,000, the highest peak viewership EVO has ever had.

All of 2019's games make a return except for Mortal Kombat 11 and Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st]. Mortal Kombat 11 makes way for Arc System Works/Cygames fighter, Granblue Fantasy Versus. As for the latter, this year's update to the Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late saga will take the place of its predecessor.
Here's the EVO 2020 tournament lineup:
- Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Tekken 7
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Samurai Shodown
- Granblue Fantasy Versus
- SoulCalibur VI
- Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Eight player Invitational)
The Arena titles weren't announced, but we could see last year's final four returns for the final day of the event. Granblue Fantasy Versus is the new EVO entry that has received a lot of hype since its announcement and is one of the Arc World Tour 2020 titles. The game launches in Japan on February 6 in Japan and March 3 in the West.
Another new attraction is the return of Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes in an eight-player invitational that will celebrate the game's 20th Anniversary. Half the lineup is the game's past Champions, Duc "Ducvader" Do, Justin "JWong" Wong, Michael "IFC Yipes" Mendoza, and Sanford Kelly. The remaining players will be revealed at a later date.
Registration, hotel bookings, and ticket purchases can be taken care of here. EVO 2020 will take place from July 31-August 2 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
