Evil Geniuses announced in a blog post today that it will not be competing in CWL Pro League 2020 season.
"We won’t be bringing the EG name to the forthcoming CWL Pro League 2020 season, or competing under the banner of any of the city-based franchises."
- Evil Geniuses
Evil Geniuses achieved a surprise victory at CWL Championship 2018, defeating OpTic Gaming, Team Envy, and Team Kaliber to take the title and $1.5 million dollars. However, this year the roster hasn't fared too well. Since qualifying for the CWL Pro League, the team has struggled, recently finishing in a tie for ninth place at CWL Finals with not a single match win.
Following Activision Blizzard's announcement of Call of Duty esports becoming a franchised league, many more teams are likely to leave as better financed ones come in to take their place. Evil Geniuses has promised to help its COD players and staff find new homes and opportunities, which could ultimately result in them joining any one of the incoming franchised teams.
