Evil Geniuses did not have an easy time besting fellow North American squad Team NP in the Dota Pit American qualifier Grand Final, but defeated them 3-1 after a hard fought best-of-five series and qualified for the Dota Pit Season 5 LAN event in the process.

Team NP's only win came in Game 1, with an extremely tanky draft that saw Aui_2000 on carry Centaur Warrunner, EternalEnvy's Razor, 1437's Spirit Breaker and SVG's Jakiro. Even MSS' Dark Seer was difficult to kill, as he purchased both Blink Dagger and Guardian Greaves by the 25 minute mark.
It was clear that EG had a plan in mind when it came to drafting for this series, as they used Venomancer, Warlock and Medusa in three of their four games. Universe also shone on Clockwerk in Games 3 and 4, showing off some moves with a hero largely ignored lately.
Dota Pit Season 5 has been EG's first Captain's Mode event since winning the MarsTV Dota 2 League Autumn LAN event in early October. The only other event they have participated in so far has been Moonduck's online Elimination Mode 2.0 event, where they are currently awaiting an opponent in the Grand Final.
EG have a busy month ahead of them, having been directly invited to Northern Arena's BEAT Invitational in Montreal, The Summit 6 in LA and The Boston Major.
The Dota Pit League Season 5 LAN event will take place in Split, Croatia from Jan. 20-22 and features a $125,000 prize pool.
