Following a two-map series, Evil Geniuses have been crowned the StarSeries i-League Season 8 victors, beating fnatic 2-0.
This win marks the North American team’s second title from a significant event since their return to CS:GO about a month ago when it signed NRG Esports’ roster. Their first win was ESL One New York where they beat Astralis 3-1.
The StarSeries i-League Season 8 Grand Final began with things in fnatic’s favour. After all, their opponents joined the final series high on their victory against FURIA Esports in the Loser’s Finals. It wasn’t until ten rounds into the game that Evil Geniuses began to pick up the pace. The first half ended at 10-5 with fnatic in the lead; however, Evil Geniuses kept up the momentum they had created. This boost led to an even scoreline of 11-11 shortly into the second half. At this point, even a quad kill by Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin couldn’t save fnatic from the 16-12 loss.
Evil Geniuses maintained their advantage on Mirage, wiping out fnatic in the pistol round. Staring their loss in the face, the Swedish team managed to take the first half at 9-6. Things turned against them once more in the CT round as Evil Geniuses seized the next ten consecutive rounds and the event title as a whole.
With their growing dominance at big CS:GO events, it remains to be seen whether Evil Geniuses can maintain this form and secure a permanent spot among the best teams in the game.
