Evil Geniuses makes its return to CS:GO after seven long years away. It has done so by acquiring NRG Esports' great roster.

The squad consists of Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte, Cvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov, Ethan "Ethan" Arnold, Tarik "Tarik" Celik and Peter "Stanislaw" Jarguz as captain while Chet "ImAPet" Singh serves as team coach. The team recently finished 3rd-4th at StarLadder Berlin Major and has reproduced similar results for a while now.

The squad begins its run under the EG banner today at ESL One New York where it is currently playing against FaZe Clan in an opening match for Group B. Invited to the tournament, they will also face OpTic Gaming and Astralis in its group. Meanwhile, ENCE, eUnited, G2 Esports and Team Liquid battle it out in Group A.

"It is EG’s 20th year as an esports organization, and a huge part of that legacy is our success in Counter-Strike. I’m elated to be able to guide EG back into victory in that space after some time away; the franchise has proved that it deserves its cemented legacy as a competitive, crowd-pleasing esport," said Evil Geniuses CEO, Nicole Lapointe Jameson.

"CS is one of the spaces our fans have asked us to re-enter the most, and we’re happy to bring a touch of Evil back to the scene and its supporters — our roster is extremely enthusiastic to hit the ground running and uphold the EG brand, and we’re going to be putting our best foot forward this weekend," she added.

Since July after settling on its current roster, NRG has been ranked in the Global top 5. This made them the perfect fit for Evil Geniuses and its return to the scene, but whether they can maintain their current success is another thing.

However, the combination of a great squad and smart management could propel Evil Geniuses to the very top of CS:GO ranking before the season is up.
