NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. seem to have dropped the ball after sending media outlet IGN an email that makes reference to Ash from the Evil Dead franchise. It's not the first we've heard of him being in the game, but it is the first official mention we've received.
To be more specific, "ASH" character from "ARMY OF DARKNESS" appears at the bottom of the email alongside other third-party characters that made their way into the game via Kombat Pack 1. Why he's the only one among them that hasn't been released is unknown, but it could indicate that he was initially planned to arrive during the first season of content.

In 2019, Mortal Kombat 11 dataminers discovered files for Ash William's intro dialogue, including that of several other characters. Bruce Campbell, who played Ash in the movies and tv show, was quick to kill the rumor at the time, and his absence during the reveal of Kombat Pack 1's lineup put an end to the speculation. It's also interesting that they picked the version of the character from the third movie, Army of Darkness to be in the game.
While Kombat Pack 1 characters were also discovered in the data mine, a few others like Fujin and Sheeva haven't been confirmed for the game either. Kombat Pack 2 hasn't been announced yet, but we all know its only just a matter of time before it is, so Ash and the other unreleased characters could still make it into Mortal Kombat 11.
