The X Games is an extreme sports event run by ESPN. Esports have been occasionally present at the X Games since 2014, but for the past three years it has been absent.
ESPN is bringing it back with an Apex Legends tournament during this year's event in August at Minneapolis. From August 2nd - 3rd, twenty 3-player teams will compete in the EXP Invitational - Apex Legends, to become the champion and win their share of the $150,000 prize pool.
Fifteen top Apex Legends teams have been invited to compete, while the remaining five slots will be filled by the winners of three online qualifiers.
In a blog post, X Games announced the opening of signups for the qualifiers, which will be held on June 29. The qualifiers will be split into three regions, North America, Europe and Australia/New Zealand. Two winning teams will be selected from North America and Europe, while Australia/New Zealand fill the last spot. The blog post includes all required information such as eligibility, how to signup and the rules governing the event.
The event will be streamed on multiple platforms, including the ESPN app. On August 10, ESPN2 will then broadcast "the best stories and moments from the live event."
