ESL One Hamburg 2018: Day 5 Recap

The first series of Day 5 was supposed to be a warmup, but it ended in a result, expected by almost no one.

Brazilian squad paiN Gaming managed to eliminate Team Aster, one of the biggest favorites of ESL One Hamburg 2018. It came down as a big surprise since the Chinese had swept their group with a 9-1 score and it took another Chinese team to drop them to the lower bracket.

Aster won the first match, although it lasted for 57 minutes and paiN looked very hot. The other 2 matches were extremely fast, and paiN won them, running with Enigma in both games.

Next best of 3 series went much better for the other Chinese team. As Virtus.Pro management was coping with a controversy, spawned by a stupid meme, the actual team struggled to win against Vici Gaming. The “Bears” twice lost to a Necrophos line-up, taking one game with Terrorblade-Dazzle combo.

Vici Gamimg went to the Grand Finals, and Virtus.Pro will be defending their champions’ title in the lower bracket finals.

Having beaten one heavy favorite of the tournament, paiN couldn’t cope with another. Team Secret swept the flour with the Brazilian team (game #1 ended in just 17 minutes), only once in the whole series giving it a brief gold advantage. https://puu.sh/BRWs3/aa7c357371.png
