ESL One Hamburg 2018: Day 4 Recap

ESL Hamburg is entering final stages of the tournament as most teams have been eliminated, and we are one series away from the final 4. Let’s look at what happened during the games yesterday.

In the first series of the day Evil Geniuses eliminated compLexity with 2:0 score. The first game took 40 minutes, and the American team was in the lead all the time. In the second game, it took EG 14 minutes to finish coL off. This performance was very disappointing for the fans of coL, who wanted to see Zfreek as pos4 instead of EternalEnvy.

The next series was very entertaining for everyone but the fans of Forward Gaming as paiN Gaming showed unconventional strategies and dominated in 2 quick games. In match #2, w33 picked Tinker and built Desolator with Mask of Madness. This was definitely a tournament highlight.

The third series was the most anticipated of the day. Team Secret, who earlier were dropped from the upper bracket by Virtus.Pro, faced Evil Geniuses. The American team had just eliminated coL and looked very hot, despite playing without SumaiL. Unfortunately for them, Team Secret were super prepared and without standins.

Overall these were classic Secret matches, with Zai slowly fading from pos 3 to pos 4-5 and setting other players for a strong late game. It did look a little hairy in game 2 when EG started gaining momentum and never let the opponent get away with overwhelming advantage, but the final battle in Roshpit put an end to it.
