ESL One Hamburg 2018: Day 1 Recap

Drow Ranger and Chinese teams are dominating

The first day of ESL One Hamburg 2018 provided a couple of upsets and kept supporters of the fan favorite teams on the edge of their seats. Let’s take a closer look at what happened.

Team Secret, having lost the very first match of group A to to EG, recollected and managed to win the remaining three games of the day, ending it with a 1:1 score vs EG and 2:0 vs Mineski. It’s a good result, considering that Puppey’s team hadn’t played with the current roster on a LAN before.

It’s hard to replace SumaiL, but CCnC is doing a pretty good job. During the very first game of the tournament Evil Geniuses dominated map with smart Io relocates and impeccable Batrider moves. EG ended this day with a solid 1-1 score vs both Team Secret and paiN Gaming.

Here is an interesting result from a match between paiN and EG, noted by Nahaz:

Group B also had some unexpected outcomes. Team EVOS, who came to Hamburg in a stroke of luck, managed to strip a point off of compLexity, but lost both games to Ninjas in Pyjamas. In the second game vs ppd’s squad the Indonesians bought Radiance for Ogre Magi, trying to steal another victory.

Probably the most dramatic matches of group B happened between Virtus.Pro and Aster. In the first game of the series the Chinese team was leading the whole time, but VP weren’t letting Aster to get away with it and even destroyed a couple of barracks.

The first day of ESL One Hamburg 2018 ended in a complete domination of the Chinese squads as Vici Gaming and Team Aster are leading their respective groups with 4-0 score.

Drow Ranger and Visage are still a strong combo, we’ve seen some really fast&furious games with those heroes wrecking everything since minute 7.
