IEM Katowice is one of the most important tournaments in the year for StarCraft 2 players because it has a huge prize pool and gives enough publicity to propel anyone's career. Europeans love the event mainly because it has an open LAN bracket, letting local talent compete for the $350,000 prize pool bypassing online qualifiers.
ESL announced the three players of each group in Ro24. The other 12 players will be seeded from the open bracket and formed by players who travel to Katowice at their own expense.
So far, Group A looks the least intimidating, though, on a good day, every player in it can beat absolutely anyone in the world.
Group B has players, who for a long time retained the title of the best player of their respective race, while Maru could be the best Terran in the world right now.
Group C contains the current WCS Champion and the ultimate StarCraft 2 player Serral; the champion of IEM Katowice 2018 Rogue; and INnoVation who won more titles than 95% of the rest of competitors in this tournament.
Group D poses the ultimate Terran challenge, with probably the best European Terran uThermal, and two tier-one Koreans TY and Bunny.
The open brackets of IEM Katowice 2019 start on February 25th.
