ESL tournament operator had announced a series of competitions with the support of Vodafone. A special feature will be the grand final, which will be held on the 5G network.
The Vodafone 5G ESL Mobile Open Championship will be represented by two games: the arcade racing title Asphalt 9: Legends and the PUBG MOBILE Battle Royale.
The goal of the project is to promote 5G technology in the telecommunications sector.
Qualifying matches for Asphalt 9: Legends will be held at ESL One Birmingham, the next matches of this series will be held at ESL One Cologne and at Gamescom 2019 in Germany. After that, the grand final will be held in Milan. The total prize fund is $50,200.
Another title, PUBG MOBILE, will receive a prize fund of 120 thousand euros ($133,900). Most of the matches will be held online, and the final will also be held at the Milan Gameweek. According to the announcement, players from 17 countries will take part.
In the last years, the promotion of 5G technology in esports has been the subject of close attention to telecommunication brands. Recently, SK Telecom has become a partner of the Korean League of Legends Championship and is promoting its 5GX brand. AT&T used the E3 2018 conference to demonstrate its 5G technology.
