ESAM drops his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 8.0 tier list

Talented Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player Eric "ESAM" Lew recently shared his views on the game's current roster. In a video almost 2 hours long, he goes deep into the strengths and weaknesses of each character.

His tier list is pretty straight forward, with characters placed in low, mid, high, and top tier. There's also a separate tier for the top 5 characters, which has a few surprises. Placing characters in ascending order, Ganondorf remains the worst character in his opinion thanks to the villain not getting buffed in the latest update. He's followed by Dr. Mario, Lucario (who ESAM believes is overrated), Incineroar, and Little Mac.

Mid Tier is the most populated, with the likes of Byleth, Jigglypuff, and Luigi placed here. While considered much better in the last update, Bayonetta and Pit still fall into the tier alongside Falco, despite the popular opinion that the Star Fox character's buffs were vast improvements.

Min Min, the newest addition to the roster, makes her debut on the list as a Top Tier beside Chrom and R.O.B. Surprisingly, Palutena doesn't make the Top 5 because her nerfs did a lot more damage than expected. Zero Suit Samus rules Top Tier but loses a Top 5 position to Wario and Shulk thanks to the former's superior mobility and latter's ability to beat most of the Top Tier characters. Pikachu, Joker, and Peach sit at the top with the Pokémon considered the best in the game right now, thanks to his great defensive play, edge guarding, and back air.

ESAM is a Panda Global player that's considered the best Pikachu main in Smash for Wii U and Ultimate. He's currently ranked 17th on PGR100 and 14th on PGRU Fall 2019.
