EPICENTER 2018: Group Stage Recap

Let’s relive the best moments of the first three days of the ongoing CS:GO event

On Tuesday, Saint Petersburg welcomed top teams from all over the world at EPICENTER 2018 where they are fighting for $300,000 in cash. The group stage passed by lightning fast as some teams tried to show their dominance, while others showed they’re worthy opponents being underdogs. Let’s see how the groups ended!

In Group A, we have witnessed some nice actions from all teams with all matches going up to 3 maps. Just a quick reminder, all matches are BO3 so we are looking for the team who will win 2 maps first. In first match, FaZe took the series 2-1 (16:8 de_train, 13:16 de_inferno and 16:8 de_mirage) against Finnish #1 team ENCE. In second match, hometown team HellRaisers faced Ukrainian legends from Natus Vincere. NaVi showed why they are 2nd best team in the world and won the series 2-1 (16:10 de_train, 11:16 de_overpass, and 16:3 de_dust2).

Decider match between ENCE and HellRaisers should have sent one of them home. Unfortunately for rising talents from Suomi, HellRaisers were stronger and won 2 of 3 maps, eventually winning the entire series 2:1 (13:16 de_overpass, 16:10 de_train, and 7:16 de_mirage).

Highlighted match-up of first day

During the second day, underdogs of the whole tournament Kazakh Avangar won the first series 2:1 against NiP and started leading in Group B. Second match was a Canadian-American battle between Team Liquid and Swole Patrol, easily won by the match favorites. Liquid won 2:0 sending Swole to the decider match. Last match of the day, Swedes from Ninjas in Pyjamas had to win against Swole Patrol. In a tough battle on de_nuke (16:14) Swedish five eventually won both maps and moved to next stage of the tournament.

Highlighted match-up of day two is definitely this:

It means Swole Patrol and ENCE are out of this tournament and we can finally move to playoff stage.

In the deciding matches today we’ve seen FaZe Сlan facing Natus Vincere and Liquid fighting against AVANGAR. Unfortunately for FaZe, Ukrainian machine turned out to be tougher, winning 2-1 (16:13 on de_train; 16:5 on de_overpass). While AVANGAR had zero chance against Liquid, getting absolutely crashed 2:0 (16:5 on de_mirage; 16:8 on de_overpass).

And this is the best match of Day 3:
