If you’ve been following FACEIT Major, you know about the insane comeback Natus Vincere pulled off against FaZe. During a match on Overpass, Na’Vi were on the brink of defeat with an 11-5 score but came back through force buy and multiple clutches.
After the game, Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev gave an interview to HLTV and explained how his team won despite the horrible odds.
— I think it is about the mood before the game. We didn't feel a change in our mood during the game when we were losing rounds or getting some clutches. It is all about the mental preparation before the game. If you feel calm during the whole game, the comeback is real, always.
Edward’s words illustrate how much mental preparation impacts overall performance in the game. If Na'Vi lost their focus even for a moment, they would inevitably lose 0-2 and drew a new scary opponent through Swiss bracket.
The interviewer also touched the topic of age in CS and asked Edward how he felt about being one of the oldest competitors of the scene. The 30-year-old player didn’t suggest that age had any impact on his performance, but noted, that teamwork is as important as reflexes and aim.
