Electronic Arts decided to skip Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2019 for the second time in a row. The company will hold a fan event on the eve of the exhibition with livestreams focusing on specific games.
About a month ago, EA chief operating and financial officer Blake Jorgenson reported that the company has plans to release new Need for Speed and Plants vs Zombies games by the Spring of 2020. If that’s the case, the pre-E3 show comes at a great time to show off the gameplay of the new titles.
The fans didn’t raise their hopes high for both Need for Speed and Plants vs Zombies. EA failed to produce a blockbuster racing game since Need for Speed: Most Wanted in 2012, and the most recent sequels don’t come close in popularity. As far as Plants vs Zombies is concerned, the last title had a strong start but turned into one of the worst abominations the microtransactions could turn a game into.
The biggest silver lining for EA this year is Apex Legends, which might overthrow Fortnite as the king of Battle Royals and turn into a successful esports. E3 will come at a time when the developers will be able to announce the third season of Battle Pass and a competitive league.
