Electronic Arts have announced the launch of a new FIFA 20 esports tournament called eLibertadores. Created in partnership with Conmebol, the South American governing body for soccer, it will cater to players in the region.
eLibertadores will be played on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, with the top eight players advancing to the $100,000 Grand Final. More details regarding the tournament will be available next month. Teams competing in South America's premier soccer club competition, Conmebol Libertadores, will also be added to FIFA 20 in a March 2020 update.
FIFA competitive gaming commissioner, Brent Koning said in a statement:
"The addition of the prestigious Conmebol Libertadores to our FIFA 20 Global Series ecosystem strengthens our connection to the global fandom of football and will accelerate the growth of esports in new parts of the world."
"We aim to offer the most inclusive esports competition in the world and are eager to welcome South American-based players and aspiring superstars to join the tens of millions already competing in FIFA."
EA is gradually adding more teams and regions to the FIFA Global Series. Maybe an African league or two will be added in the future too.
