The open qualifiers for this year's DreamHack Winter event have come to an end, with eight teams progressing to the closed brackets. The biggest surprise in EU qualifier was when in the last round the CIS team Syman eliminated new French star team Vitality (mostly known for their League of Legends section), despite a strong performance shown by the 17-year-old Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut.
Meanwhile in North America, the biggest shock was the forfeit of third seed Singularity after seemingly arriving late for their match against Whatever It Takes. In Brazilian derby between FURIA and INTZ, ex-IMMORTALS player João "horvy" Horvath's side overcame a 10-5 deficit to win the match and book a spot in the closed qualifier.
Completed list of qualified teams for Europe and NA:
Europe:
ex-Space Soldiers vs. Syman
AGO vs. Red Reserve
LDLC vs. x6tence Galaxy
Fragsters vs. LeftOut
North America:
eUnited vs. Vireo.pro
Spacestation vs. INTZ
Luminosity vs. Bravado
Rogue vs. TeamOne
All 8 qualified teams will be joining another 8 teams which have been invited by the organizers. The matches will be played out on Sunday, October 28. Both tournaments will feature a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket, with the winners earning spots at the DreamHack tournament.
