Tournament favourites Alliance defeated paiN Gaming 3:0 in the finals to become the DOTA Summit champions. They went home with $42,000 in prize money, while paiN Gaming came second and Team Serenity, third.
Day One of the tournament saw Alliance's performance mirrored by paiN Gaming, both ending the day with 2 wins and 1 draw. Team Serenity had two matches that day, winning the first while losing to Alliance in the second.
During day two, Alliance defeated both beastcoast and Complexity Gaming 2:0 but paiN Gaming couldn't do the same this time. Instead, they drew their second game against beastcoast, yet beat Serenity in the first. Serenity lost two matches that day but managed a draw against J.Storm.
Things got even more interesting during the playoffs when Alliance lost 2:1 to paiN Gaming in the Winner's Finals. Serenity made an impressive comeback in the losers' bracket, defeating J.Storm 2:1 on the first round and Complexity 2:0 in the second round. Facing Alliance in the Losers' Finals, Serenity's good fortune ended as they lost to the favourites yet again.
Returning to face paiN Gaming in the Grand Finals, Alliance defeated the team that sent them to the losers' bracket, 3-0. Complexity came in fourth, Beastcoast fifth and J.Storm took last place.
Alliance proved why they were the only team at the event to qualify for The International 2019, but paiN Gaming made them fight for it. This marks their first LAN title for the 2018-2019 season, putting them in high spirits for TI9.
The tournament is just part of the reason why everyone loves DOTA Summit so much, the other being their antics and production quality. Here's a couple of from the event.
