Dota 2 - When is it worth it to buy Butterfly?

Introduction

With over 120 items to get, choosing the right ones is definitely not easy. While it's true that the vast majority of Dota 2 items are good only for the early and mid-game, there are a couple of late-game items that everyone wants to get. One of them is Butterfly, one of the most recognizable carry items in Dota 2. Even though it's pretty expensive, there are many heroes who want to get it because it provides a lot of awesome stats. However, the big question is, do you actually need it?

Let's see a couple of situations where this item might be useful.

You just want the stats

Let's face it, there are not that many Dota 2 items out there that have as good stats like this one. Apart from just raw damage, this item also gives tons of agility, which means that it provides armor. Of course, let's also not forget the evasion, which can be life-saving in many situations. 

Get it when there is no MKB

As we've mentioned in the previous paragraph, one of Butterfly's biggest strengths is the fact that it has evasion. However, as you know, this is one of the easiest stat to counter because any hero can just buy a Monkey King Bar, which will make the evasion useless. However, if you're playing in a game where it's obvious that no one will buy this item, it's definitely worth getting Butterfly. The evasion is just too good to pass on.

Buy it early on

Contrary to what people think, Butterfly can be an extraordinary item if it's bought early on, especially against certain heroes. For example, Phantom Lancer, Meepo, and Phantom Assassin will suffer big time against this item if you buy it early on. Sure, it costs a lot of gold but if that's the cost that you have to pay to win, so be it.
