Valve released another small but important update for Dota 2, in which the changes were made to matchmaking. Now you'll get more MMR for victories in solo games than in the party matches, and the scale in the number of points is reduced.

Below are the changes as follows:

  • Variability in the amount of MMR a player gain or lose from a match was removed. You will no longer see matches that give results like +10/-40.
  • Solo games will now give 30 MMR instead of 25 and party games will now give 20 MMR. Valve stated that they "have more confidence in the impact of a player on the game when they are solo compared to in a party."
  • The Fast/Slow queue was removed and replaced with Ranked Roles and Ranked Classic. To play in Ranked Roles you need to earn Role Queue games by playing matches while selecting all roles. Ranked Classic has replaced the Slow Queue, and it does not let you select roles. The developers did it because the slow/fast queue concept has not been successful in producing good quality games. The end result was slow queue waiting a little bit longer, and then forcing very bad quality matches on the entire player pool. They think it's a fair requirement to enforce that if a player want to have the advantage of playing a specific role, he/she has to contribute to the matchmaking system by sometimes playing other roles, or just queue role-less as in previous years.
