Some teams, such as Nigma for example, tend to pick him a lot and the hero performs pretty well for the most part.

Vladimir's Offering

This is a classic offline item that's very useful both for Mars and his team-mates. It's pretty cheap, so heroes can buy it very early on, which is a plus. Blink Dagger

This is a good offensive item that's needed so that the hero can actually use his Arena of Blood properly. In most cases, people tend to either rush this or Vlad's like a first item, so it all depends on what kind of game you're in.
