Introduction
Nowadays, Dota 2 is a very dynamic game because there is always someone who is trying to gank you. At this point, we can safely say that the days of static Dota are long gone. That's why it is very important to know how to survive in such a deadly environment.
Generally speaking, every single hero can get ganked. However, as the game goes on, the cores are the ones that are prioritized the most because they are the ones that are capable of winning the game. Having said that, let's take a look at a couple of tips you can use to survive in the different states of the game.
Surviving during the Early game
Usually, the ganks that take place during the early game are not that dangerous. In fact, most of the time, they will happen in the lane itself because most of the people are focused on getting as much experience as possible. In this case, the way to avoid ganks depends heavily on which lane you're in. Of course, the hardest lane to avoid ganks is mid because there will always be someone that wants to kill you.
Regardless of your position, you should always have Observer Wards showing you what's happening. If you don't have any vision near you, it's very possible to get ganked all the time.
Another important thing is to pay attention to the heroes that are missing. For example, if there was an offlane Pudge who suddenly disappears from the map, it's pretty likely that he will attempt to gank somewhere.
Lastly, you should always pay attention to the timings of some heroes. There are certain abilities in the game that completely change the way in which the hero plays. So, if you notice that Clockwerk hit level 6, chances are that he is going to try and gank you.
Surviving during the Mid and Late game
Once the early game is over, the ganks will start to be a lot more deadly and most important - impactful. One small mistake can lead to very deadly consequences, including a tower push, Roshan kill, and more.
Here are a couple of tips that you can use to avoid being ganked:
- Don't overextend (this means that you shouldn't go to places that you're not sure are safe)
- Don't farm alone in a random location
- If you can't see the enemy heroes on the map, try staying somewhere where you can escape because it's very likely that you will get ganked
- Watch out for smokes, Shadow Blades, etc. because these items are very useful for ganks
