Following the much anticipated Immortal Treasure III, Valve has released an update for Dota 2 that changes the matchmaking system.
The developers have combined personal and team MMRs and added an option to participate in ranked matches by role. Points will now be distributed between two categories (core and support), which must be selected in advance before a new session.
The changes has already taken effect and will remain valid until the end of the season. Valve will conduct a community survey and collect statistics for this reporting period to create an even more comfortable playing experience:
Over the next year, we’ll be spending more time focusing on various aspects of matchmaking such as intra-team balance, player conduct, new player experience, abusive behaviors, account buying, friend and teamplay aspects, high MMR matchmaking dynamics, and other issues in an effort to make the overall experience of playing Dota more fun for players of all levels.
