Introduction
Omniknight is a pretty cool Dota 2 hero who used to be one of the most popular supports back in the days. In fact, he is still considered to be really strong, especially in situations where there are a lot of melee heroes on the enemy team. However, as the Dota 2 meta changes, more and more players are starting to put him in the offline. That's not really surprising because Omni is one of the Dota 2 heroes that can sustain himself on the lane very easily due to his heal. To make matters for the enemy lane worse, he even has a Repel that makes him even harder to kill.
So, the question is, is it worth putting him in the support role now? Here are some situations where Omni support might do the job.
Pick the hero whenever you have a very robust offlaner
The days of a position five Omni are long gone, that's for sure. Nowadays, whenever he has to be played as a support, people usually play him as position four. If your team has an offlaner which is capable of making the life of the enemy carry hard, picking an Omni support to go alongside with him is a good idea. There are many examples here, such as Huskar, Timbersaw, Necrophos, and so on.
Pick a support Omni when your team tactic allows it
Even though most pub games are pretty random, some of the higher-level games usually consist of people who know what they're doing. As a result, you can often find people picking many heroes that work together in an attempt to win easier. So, if that's the case, getting an Omni as a support hero might be a good idea, depending on what kind of Strat you're using. As an example, a Drow Strat is a popular tactic where Omni support can make all the difference in the world.
Get the hero whenever you want to counter someone
If you are that type of a player that just likes to make the life of other people difficult, feel free to get Omni as a counterpick. He can do wonders against some physical damage dealers, such as Templar Assassin, Phantom Assassin, Sven, and more. When Omni uses his ult, his entire team is basically invincible and can run over their enemies.
