Place the wards wherever you need them

The answer to this question depends entirely on how is the game going for your team. If things are good, you have to try and put as much offensive vision as possible in order to be effective. However, if you're under a heavy siege, that observer ward in the enemy jungle is probably not a good idea.

Use a Smoke of Deceit so you can place the wards

This is something that many pro players tend to do and you should start doing it as well. The idea behind using a Smoke to ward is to prevent the enemy from seeing you if they already have a ward there. Unfortunately, there are many people who just don't bother doing this at all, which is why it's you often just waste the ward for no reason.

Try to take advantage of every situation

The last thing that you should try to do is make the most out of any situation. This means that whenever you see an opportunity to do something, you should reach and grab it. So, for example, if you're team just wiped everyone, you have to use this time to ward and then deward the enemy wards.
