Dota 2: How to Deal with Huskar

Introduction

Huskar is one of the strongest early and mid game heroes in Dota 2. Given a proper start, he is capable of carrying his team to victory very easily. That’s why it’s very important to know how to properly play against him. The last thing you want is to let him take over your lane.

Having said that, here are a couple of ways in which you can assure that Huskar won’t overrun you and your team.

Pick a hero that can stay on the lane

While this is definitely easier said than done, it is the most important thing. If you have the advantage to know that you will be laning against Huskar, you have to try and pick a hero that stands a chance. Sadly, there are not that many heroes that can stand in a lane against this beast. However, most long-range heroes should be able to at least keep up with him. That’s why you can often see people picking Sniper or Invoker (if Huskar is mid).

If he is the safelane, your choices are very limited, especially if you’re solo. A very good choice could be Dark Seer because he can farm and keep a safe distance. What’s more, Huskar is not that good wave clearer, so he can’t kill the Ion Shelled creep that fast.

Don’t play too aggressive

Now that you’re on the lane against Huskar, every single mistake can be fatal. If you make a wrong move, it can lead him to stack multiple Burning Spears. Needless to say, this won’t end well. Of course, playing over defensively is not ideal as well. That’s why you need to try and find that “sweet spot” and make the most out of it. Ideally, you will be able to trade farm with him without dying.

Be very careful with your ganks

Last, but definitely not least, you need to be extra careful when you’re trying to gank this hero. Thanks to his third skill, Huskar is capable of doing absurd amounts of damage when he has low HP. What’s more, this hero is usually accompanied by babysitter such as Dazzle or Oracle, which makes the kill even harder. That’s why you need to be very careful when you’re trying to gank him because it could lead to a disaster. Apart from feeding, this can also lead to a free Roshan, which is the last thing you want.
