Introduction
Mars is one of the Dota 2 heroes that was released just a couple of months ago. Despite that, he quickly made a name for himself because he is extremely fun to play with. However, he can sometimes be pretty hard to make plays around the map, so it's important to play him the right way.
Speaking of "playing him the right way", the is hero is mostly famous for being an offlaner. He is good there because he has the needed skill set to survive and farm. Nevertheless, what will happen if you decide to put mars in the carry role? Well, let's find out what are the advantages and disadvantages of such a decision.
Pluses
The biggest advantage is that Mars has a decent farming speed. As a result, he can farm up some of the important items relatively fast.
Another strong point is that the hero can actually do a lot of damage, thanks to his second spell. So, in a scenario where he gets good damage items, he can quickly burst down the weak enemy in just a matter of seconds.
Of course, another advantage is his natural tankiness. Even if you don't buy defensive items for this hero, he is still strong enough to soak up a lot of damage, which can be very important in some situations.
Minuses
The biggest downside of having Mars as a carry is the fact that the hero just doesn't scale that well in the late game. Sure, he can do a lot of damage with his second spell but that's pretty much it. Even if you become a six-slotted monster, he won't stand a chance against other agility carries.
Another minus is that Mars has to initiate first in order to be effective. This might not seem like that much of an issue in the beginning, but when the late game comes, every hero can die in just a matter of seconds, so jumping first with the carrier is probably not the best idea.
The final verdict is that Mars can be a viable carry but in certain situations. We'd prefer to pick this hero if we were going for a fast push.
