Dota 2 7.27 Update — Zoo Meta, Balance Changes, New Items

Jun 29 2020 3 min read

Dota 2 7.27 Update brings many things to the game in the form of changing the Zoo Meta, Balance Changes, New Items, and more.

Just a couple of hours after Team Secret has won their sixth cup in two months, Valve has released a new update for Dota 2 — Patch 7.27.

After finishing reading through all the patch notes, one might feel a bit uncomfortable because there were no great or significant changes made. Although, the patch is significant

First of all, the competitive part. Captain's Mode was reworked in a way that now allows the teams to be able to have more diverse picks — which means, they will need to know how to counter more heroes. It sounds kind of messy right now and the pro meta will not be as stable as always, thanks to surprising combos and non-standard picks.

  • Captain's Mode ban count has changed from 4/1/1 for the three ban phases to 2/3/2

The second most important thing in the patch is the hero-killing economy. Take a look at this:

  • Hero kills base XP increased from 40 to 100
  • Hero kill last hit gold increased from 99 + 7.2 * Level to 120 + 8 * Level
  • Assist gold rescaled from 45 + 0.033*NW to 30 + 0.038*NW

Once again, Valve is increasing Dota's gameplay speed and is forcing you into fighting more than farming (if not playing as carry surely).

The third one is about items. There are two brand new items incoming:

And there has been a huge amount of micro-reworks that will strongly affect the game and the heroes' builds — both carries and supports. Most notable reworks concern the Zoo meta when people picked Lycan/Beastmaster/Chen and went on to push people's bodies like there were none. I can't tell if that was made on purpose, but Valve put Necorbook, Dominator, and Vladmir's at the very beginning of the update list.

Also, now Silver Edge is almost useless for ranged heroes because from now on it requires Echo Sabre instead of Ultimate Orb. It means we will very likely see the increase of invisible Slarks, WKs, Monkey Kings, Juggernauts, etc.

The next fun thing to hear is about Blade Mail: now it reflects 80% of damage but grants you 20 + 20% bonus attack damage. Which means, this item turned from a defensive one into an offensive. It also will not provide you with Intellect anymore.

The fourth part is about Amplification stacking. It is a fair patch, to be honest.

  • Lifesteal Amplification now stacks diminishingly rather than additively
  • HP Regen Amplification now stacks diminishingly rather than additively
  • Heal Amplification now stacks diminishingly rather than additively
  • Spell Lifesteal Amplification now stacks diminishingly rather than additively

And the fifth thing worth notice, a very sad one. We must say farewell to Prowler Camps. Press your Fs to pay respects, people!

Next month, most of the teams will go on vacation so there will be no significant tournaments to watch, except for SEA and China. Still, we're reminding you that WePlay! Pushka League Season 2 will happen at the end of the summer. Cheers!
