Introduction
Destiny 2 was one of the most amazing games when it came out. That said, the recent updates have made it even better because there are tons of new stuff to do. To make this more interesting, Destiny 2: New Light offers a lot of free-to-play content as well, which is perfect for those of you who don't want to spend any cash on games.
However, if you have not played for a long time, you might get confused because there are a lot of new things to do game. That's why it's essential to have a general overview of what's new and what to expect from "New Light".
Let's dive in.
Campaigns
Similar to many other games out there, Destiny 2 offers an exciting drive that we encourage you to try out. However, if you never actually played the game before, we advise you to try out the original campaign first before going to the one right now. That's why "The Red War" seems like the obvious choice to begin from because it is a log, it has a good story, and you will have tons of fun.
Of course, if you want to try the campaign out without investing that much time in it, opt for the "Curse of Osiris" or "Warmind". Both of them are short and pretty cool.
Once done, you can try out the newest campaigns from the "New Light".
Picking up the special weapon
One of essential things in every shooter game is to pick the proper gun. After all, you want to kill your enemies as fast and as efficient as possible. If you played Destiny 2 before you probably know that there are different types of ammo tiers - white, green and purple.
In addition to them, there are many different weapons that you can choose from, but it seems like the so-called "Special weapons" are the best right now. The cool thing is that you can combine then with a primary weapon and have two of them. Of course, if you really like the Special Weapons, just get two of them.
Both combinations have their ups and downs. For example, the primary weapons are cool because they have endless ammo. However, the damage output is nowhere as good as the one from the Special Weapons, which is probably an essential aspect of it. That's why the best thing to do is to have one of each which will allow you to be a lot more versatile. After all, you don't want to be out of ammo or lack the damage just when you need to bring down a boss or encounter an enemy player.
Try to do bonus damage
While we are on the topic of destruction, one of the things that distinguish any player in a shooter game is his ability to aim correctly. You should always try to get a headshot because you will do tons of bonus damage. However, some enemies have other weak spots which you can exploit and maximise your loss.
For example, the Vex are particular types of enemies where even if you land a headshot. It won't be all that successful. That said, they have a special greeny-glowing thingy on their back which is where their weak spot stays. In addition to them, there are other enemies such as Servitors for example, which have a different soft spot but you get the point.
The idea is to know your enemies beforehand, so you know what to do. Luckily, even if you have no clue what to do, if you end up hitting it in the "right place", the damage number will become yellow which will let you know that that's where you need to attack.
Apart from the enemies mentioned above, some of them use different types of shields which will neglect a lot of damage. In order to deal with that, it's advisable to use an Energy weapon because they can do bonus damage to shields. What's more, you can even match the element to the guards, which means that it will do even more damage. Of course, you can also use a different type of weapon, but it will take too much time.
Do not delete your items
Every player had rough moments. Some of us tend to just "ALT_F4" and do something else, whereas others are a lot more innovative and can even destroy their in-game "life" by just deleting items. Needless to say, you should avoid doing this at all cost because it will only ruin your game.
The cool thing about Destiny 2 is the fact that even if you are not using your most potent weapon in your arsenal, it still "counts" and helps you get a higher Power Level. In other words, the loot that you get from that moment on will be better. However, if you delete the weapon, your Power Level will drop, thus, reflecting on the loot.
That's why it's not advisable to delete anything unless your items are of white, green or blue rarity. Of course, you need to be sure that you're not taking advantage of them in any other way. A right way of saving your stuff is if you put tine in a vault. This will save you from the "hassle" of having to grind for the same weapon that you might need later on, but you've deleted.
To get to the Vault, you need to go near the Banshee-44 which is located near the Gunsmith. It contains around 500 slots, which should be more than enough to put your things in it. Think of this Vault as a free bank that you can go to.
Lastly, if you are a "clumsy" player that can sometimes delete something by miss clicking on it, you can lock a weapon. Just press the Shift key if you are playing on a PC, and the specific item will be closed, which will prevent it from being deleted.
Infusing your gear
Infusing is a very cool mechanic in Destiny 2 that allows you to "sacrifice" a weapon to benefit another one. Usually, this is used when you want/have to increase your Power Level, so you just decide to "empower" one of your favourite weapons.
As you can imagine, this is a costly thing to do so you really need to be careful when and why are you actually doing it. Sure, it's a fantastic way of buffing your weapon, but you need to be careful how you spend your in-game money.
It seems like the best time to infuse your gear is whenever you are about to go to a very had dungeon or a raid. This will allow you to do more damage and be "relevant". Needless to say, you should NOT try to infuse your gear just for levelling because it won't make that much difference and you will only spend your money.
Experimenting with guns and perks
Experimenting is always a good option, regardless of where you do it, and Destiny 2 is no exception. It will allow you to know more about a particular thing.
The cool thing about this game is that you will have many options to experiment because nearly every single quest offers a unique experience. You might end up with new weapons, which is a perfect opportunity for you to try them out. Sure, you can use the one that you enjoy the most, but then you won't know what the other weapons are capable of.
Let's also not forget about another cool thing - perks. Each weapon has its own perk, which can make it unique in certain situations. The perks are "abilities" that each firearm has, and they are mainly related to the damage output against certain types of enemies.
If you take your time to experiment, you will be able to see which types of weapons you enjoy the most and what perks are the best for you.
Check what the other players are doing
This might seem obvious, but many players don't pay any attention to the others. Instead, they are just playing in their own "bubble". While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it's definitely advisable to check what the others are doing because you might learn a lot of new ideas. After all, Destiny 2 is an open-world game where you can do tons of stuff with the other players such as Public Events and different types of group activities.
Speaking of Public events, there are a couple of different variations of them, but the most competitive one is the "Heroic Public Event". However, to be able to join one, you need to do a secret task which is tricky to get. That's why the most comfortable way of completing it is just to watch how the more experienced players complete it.
Unlike some other games out there, the community in Destiny 2 is pretty good for the most part. You can rarely stumble across people that will just ignore you or even worse- start flaming you for no reason. This means that you don't have to be afraid to ask someone when you need help. After all, we are all humans.
Lastly, the devs added a special "local chat" that is used precisely for this purpose. It will save you time because you don't need actually to see someone in order to ask him a question.
Finding the coolest weapons and armours
Even though the looks make no difference in terms of your in-game performance, it's refreshing to have a better-looking gear because it will help you stand out from the rest. If you happen to stumble across someone that looks cool, don't be afraid to go near him and inspect so you can see what is he wearing.
Of course, don't forget that you also have your very own collection. Some players actually forget about that which is strange because you might have some pretty beautiful things there. To access it, you need to click on the right button located next to the character sheet. Once there, you will see all the different weapons and armours that you can choose from. The more gear you discover along the way, the more options you will have to choose from.
Do Weekly Challenges
One of the best ways, to get the most reliable gear in Destiny 2, is to do the different Challenges on a weekly basis. You can find them easily by searching for a blue star on the map. Of course, there are other ways of farming gear as well, but this is the fastest and probably the most efficient one as well. Just keep it in mind that the weekly tasks reset every Tuesday morning, so you have to be quick.
Most of them are not that hard, but some are complicated, which means that you will have to do it with someone else. In general, the Public Events and Lost Sectors are what most people opt for because they are relatively quick and can provide good loot.
Use apps that help you connect with different players
As we mentioned above, most of the activities in Destiny 2 will require you to combine with different players. That's why it is crucial actually to have someone to play with.
If you are one of those players whose friends are not into the same game as he, you will have a hard time. Luckily, we live in 2019, so there are tons of stuff that you can use to connect with other players from all over the world such as Discord for example. It is by far the most popular method of communication between games nowadays.
Apart from Discord, you can also use the Bungie app, which comes in handy a lot. It is a quick way of finding five other players to create a group. However, we advise you to go on discord if you are looking for players to do a specific hard task.
Reddit is also an option, but it's more dangerous there because there are many trolls and just straightforward bad people.
Get the daily bounties
You can get various cool rewards every single day. In destiny 2. As you know, to "advance" in this game, you need to have a lot of XP so that you can upgrade the so-called "Seasonal Artifact". This thing allows you to gain Power Level whenever you level it, which is pretty easy to do.
One of the ways you can get a lot of XP fast is if you do the different daily bounties that are available in the game. Most of them are very easy to do and won't even take that much time.
Usually, the bounties can be taken from different vendors that will ask you to kill specific enemies or a group of them. The "worst-case" scenario might be to do a Lost Sector. If you complete them successfully, you will earn a thing called "Glimmer", which is basically the most spread in-game currency.
In most cases, there will be different bounties every single day, which is cool because you will have some new to do all the time. Just remember not to forget about them because you can easily get distracted.
