Introduction

Death Stranding is an absolutely fantastic game because there are tons of cool things that you can do. Having said that, one of the first things that you need to do is to fin all prepper in the game. As you probably know, this is a significant thing to have because you will be able to unlock additional gear and also get cool upgrades. Needless to say, if you want to have a chance at surviving in the cold world, you need to have the proper gear because otherwise, it will be impossible.

You will be able to gain preppers when you make successful deliveries in the different cities in Death Stranding. Apart from upgrades, you can use the preppers to unlock various different cosmetic stuff.

What gear can you unlock via the story mode in Death Stranding?

The cool thing about Death Stranding is that you can unlock everything you need just by playing the primary story mode. This is cool because you don't have to do anything else in o der to progress. Of course, some things can only be obtained via the side missions, but they are not that important.

Here are some of the things that you will get from the story mode:

  • Level 1 Generator PCC
  • Level 1 Bridge PPC
  • A spray to repaint containers (this is one of the coolest things because it will save you from danger when you've damaged the cargo)
  • Level 1 Power Skeleton
  • Level one bola gun
  • Level one anti-BT gun (a very useful weapon)

There are also other things, but you get the point. Apart from this list, there are other things that you can get that are not included in the main story. For instance, the level 2 Floating carrier is something that is very useful.

One of the critical things to do in Death Stranding is to increase the "level" of your relationship with the different people in the game. When you reach a certain level, you will be able to unlock many cool additional features such as the ability to take a rest there, a hologram data, and more.

Where to find and how to upgrade your Power Skeleton?

The Power Skeleton can be be found when you finally reach the big Central Region. Once you get there, you will be given a particular quest that will want you to tie together a couple of preppers to the Chiral Network. Needless to say, this is definitely easier said than done.

One of the preppers that you have to deal with goes by the name "The Engineer," and you can find him very south of Lake Knot City. As soon as you connect him to the Chiral Network, you will receive a special item called Power Skeleton that is very, very important. Apart from looking cool, this item also increases your carrying capacity, which is one of the essential things in Death Stranding.

Even though you might think you're ready, that's not the case. You will get the Power Skeleton at level one, which not wrong, but you can upgrade it all the way to Level 3. Needless to say, this is definitely something that you want to have because it increases your carrying capacity while also decreasing your power consumption. You will be using this all the time, so it's definitely advisable to get this item to level 3 as soon as possible.

In order to upgrade the Power Skeleton, you need to get in a good relationship with The Engineer.  There are many ways in which you can do this, but it seems like bringing the Lost Cargo that's meant for him is one of the best ways. Unfortunately, this is not the easiest thing to do because this cargo is in the wild, and you might have a lot of trouble finding it.

After you get this, you also have to complete a couple of Standard Orders. By the time you're done, you should have finally reached three starts with him, and this will allow you to unlock Power Skeleton Level 2. If you wish to unlock the next level, you will have to reach four starts. Even though it might seem a lot, this can be achieved reasonably quickly (you should be done in around 2-3 hours max).

When you finally get the Power Skeleton to level  3, you will have the ability to move around over 300 kilograms of cargo, which is pretty insane. As a comparison, without this upgrade, you can only have about 150 kilograms.

Upgrading Structures in Death Stranding

Improving your structures is a pretty cool thing to do, and it's easy -you just need to go close to it and then press the options button. Apart from making it look cool, the upgrade will also increase its durability, which means that it will be able to survive against timefall. However, every single update means that you will spend a lot of materials, so you should keep that in mind.

Keep it in mind that not every single structure can or has to be upgraded. For example, you can often build something that you will use just a couple of times, so there is no point in spending any effort in maintaining it. On the other hand, if you have intensions in using something for a long time, it's definitely advisable to upgrade it so that it can sustain itself in the future.

How to customize your structures?

There are many reasons why you would want to upgrade your structures. For instance, when you reach level 2, you will be able to play music, project a hologram, and do all kinds of other things. In order to unlock all these options, you need to increase the level of your "connections" by making different deliveries.

Before you start grinding the customizations, it is essential to know that they are only cosmetic. This means that you won't be able to get any additional functionalities other than sheer looks. Nevertheless, it is still something that's worth checking out if you want to have full experience in Death Stranding.
