The 2018 Global StarCraft II League Super Tournament Season 2 is already underway, with the first half of the Round-of-16 having concluded this afternoon. Organised by AfreecaTV, the competition is the last remaining port of call before BlizzCon 2018 (taking place at the start of November) and with precious points on the line the fight for the last spot in the Global Finals is on.
The opening match saw Cho ‘Maru’ Seong Ju taking on his teammate Lee ‘Rogue’ Byung Ryul in a Best-of-5 format. Staying true to his style, Maru turned the aggression up to eleven, moving on to the Round-of-8 without dropping a single map. Up next, Jin Air’s Kim ‘sOs’ Yoo Jin took down Team Revolution’s Hwang ‘Keen’ Kyu Seok in a series of close matches, ultimately closing the series out with a 3:1 score.
Former Splyce Zerg Kang ‘Solar’ Min Soo, who was recently acquired by Infinity Gaming, narrowly escaped elimination, taking down Titan EX1’s Kim ‘Impact’ Joon Hyuk 3:2. The day concluded with Splyce’s Kim ‘Stats’ Dae Yeob defeating Jin Air’s Cho ‘Trap’ Sung Ho in a back-and-forth Protoss versus Protoss slobberknocker.
Tune in tomorrow for more Super Tournament action at 5PM KST.
